ArcelorMittal South Africa, is Africa''s biggest steelmaker, said that the crude steel production fell by 2.3% to 1.19 million tons in the first quarter, compared iwht the same period of last year. The company''s overall operating capacity reached 80% in the first quarter, compared with 81% last year.
The first quarter sales, ArcelorMittal South Africa’s domestic sales amounted to 855,000 tons, down by 3.4% compared with the same period of last year, mainly due to weak demand in the local long products market, resulting in high inventory and strong competition.
