Installed in three tool free steps, the 25mm x 16mm fire-resistant fire clip is pushed into the trunking and secured with a masonry screw or fixing, with the cables then fed in. Finally, the flexible metal wings of the fire clip are bent to secure the cables before the lid of the trunking is fitted for a safe and neat finish. When the trunking is in position, the fire clip ensures the cable is secure and retains its position on the wall in the event of a fire, even if the plastic cable housing has melted. This provides a safer environment for both firefighters and occupants should a fire break out, while also increasing escape time from a building.
The stainless steel fire clip also adheres to the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671: Wiring systems in escape routes), following the changes in July 2015. The new amendment requires wiring systems in escape routes to be supported to prevent premature collapse in the event of a fire, meaning non-metallic trunking, conduit, cable ties and cable clips can no longer be used as the only means of support in escape route areas.
The fire clip has also been tested independently for fire performance in accordance with BS 5839-1 2013 Section 26.2 e, ensuring adequate support for cables when subjected to fire with mechanical shock and water spray.
