According to the data from Russian Special Steel and Alloys Consumers and Suppliers Association (SpetsStal Association), Russian apparent stainless steel consumption was 477,000 tons in 2017, up by 15% year on year.
In 2017, the imports of Russian stainless steel were around 370,000 tons, significantly up by 55% from those in 2015.
The imports of stainless steel and specialty steel accounted for a large proportion in Russian market, mainly due to the shortages in the domestic production. There were barely any special tool steels in Russia, and the offer from the domestic steel mills was not competitive enough.
